WHY GUESTS REMEMBER HOW AN EVENT FELT, NOT WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE

When planning an event, it’s easy to focus on how everything will look. The tables, the florals, the details that shape the visual identity of the space. And while those elements matter, they’re rarely what guests remember most.
What stays with people is how the experience made them feel.
There’s a reason for that. Memory isn’t built from static visuals, it’s shaped by emotion, movement, and contrast. In psychology, this is often explained through the Peak-End Rule, introduced by Daniel Kahneman. The idea is simple. People tend to remember an experience based on its most emotionally intense moment and how it ends, rather than everything that happened in between.
In a wedding setting, that might look like a packed dance floor when the music hits just right, or a quiet rooftop moment as the sun sets over the city. And just as importantly, it’s how the night closes. The final song, the last round of drinks, the feeling guests leave with as they say goodbye. Those are the moments that shape how the entire event is remembered.
For that reason, planning isn’t solely about decoration. It’s about experience. A beautifully designed space without flow can feel static, while a thoughtfully paced event feels natural and engaging. The most memorable celebrations are the ones where everything works together—the space, the timing, the movement, and the people.

Host Memorable Events Here
At The Oviatt, we approach events with this in mind. Our space was designed to move, not just to be seen. From the intimacy of the penthouse rooms to the openness of the rooftop, each area allows the event to evolve naturally, creating shifts in energy that guests experience throughout the night.
If you’re in the early stages of planning, it can be helpful to think beyond what your event will look like, and start considering how it will feel. That shift in perspective often changes everything.
If you’d like to explore how your event could take shape within our space, you can book a private tour or connect with our team here. We’re always here to guide you through the process and help you create something your guests will truly remember.
