Flowers are more than just décor. They set the tone, define the mood, and become part of the story of your event. At The Oviatt, we’ve seen how the right floral design can completely transform a space — from intimate ceremonies to rooftop celebrations that feel straight out of a movie.
Beyond beautiful bouquets and centerpieces, flowers have the power to express a feeling. They can add warmth, bring playfulness, or create timeless sophistication. And that kind of harmony happens when you work with professionals who understand both design and emotion.
That’s why we wanted to introduce some of our most trusted floral partners and share insights on how to get the most out of working with a florist. Whether you’re planning a wedding, a milestone celebration, or a brand event, we hope this helps you bring your inspiration to life in a way that feels uniquely your own.
The Creative Minds Behind The Oviatt’s Most Beautiful Events
Flowers By Sam is a full-service floral design company based in Los Angeles. Known for unique and modern arrangements, Sam Robinson and his team have been part of countless celebrations across Southern California — including weddings, corporate gatherings, and rooftop events at The Oviatt.
We spoke with Sam about his creative approach, his favorite trends, and how couples and hosts can collaborate with their florist for an effortless, inspired experience.
When it comes to choosing flowers for an event, what are the things people often overlook, and how do you help them make the most impact, even on a budget?
Consider the location and weather. Working at the Oviatt is in a historic building - with guests inside and out. Select florals that enhance the vibe of the location and your personal style. For impact on a budget, feature florals in the areas where guests will be arriving and where they will spend most of their time... the entryway, bar, etc. Florals for the ceremony can be repurposed for the reception - by lining the aisle with centerpieces and then using them on your guest tables or by placing your bouquets on the head table.
In your recent work, is there a floral installation or event that stands out for you? How does it reflect the creative directions you’re most excited about right now?
Calla Lilies are a traditional favorite at weddings, and at a location like the Oviat,t they certainly make a statement. They are gorgeous on their own in a vase, as a boutonniere, or mixed with other florals for stunning centerpieces.
For couples or hosts planning their event florals, how can they make the collaboration with a florist feel effortless? What’s the best way to communicate their vision so you can guide them toward a design that truly captures what they want?
Have a budget to share with your florist for your florals. The cost is based on the size and type of flowers used - there is a significant difference in what we can offer for $5,000 versus $1,500. We can then share examples of our work that match the budget to best meet expectations. If you have examples of centerpieces, bouquets, etc., a Pinterest Board, etc., that is also helpful. We are open to jumping on a call, communicating via email, or meeting in person, whichever best serves our clients. Our aim is to provide exceptional service and to offer expertise to bring our clients' vision to life.

Working with a florist or designer should feel effortless and inspiring. Here are a few simple ways to get the most out of your collaboration:
Share a clear vision or mood board — photos, textures, or even a few words that describe your desired atmosphere.
Communicate priorities early. Whether you want show-stopping centerpieces or a lush ceremony arch, your florist can tailor designs to what matters most.
Be open to creative direction. The best results often come from trusting your florist’s instincts — they know how to enhance the venue’s light, architecture, and tone.
Consider seasonal blooms. They not only photograph beautifully but also stay fresher and are often more sustainable.
Floral design is one of the most powerful ways to set the mood for your event, and our trusted partners are experts at turning inspiration into art.
